Why does credit repair work?

In short, credit repair works so well because the credit bureaus are unable to verify much of the information they store on credit reports.

When you dispute a negative item, you are forcing the credit bureaus to prove that a negative item belongs on your credit reports. To do this, the credit bureaus are required to contact the creditor who reported the negative item and ask them to verify that the negative item should be listed.

Now consider what this means to the company who reported the item. While they are trying to conduct their normal business, the credit bureaus are requesting that they take the time to go back and research a past account. For many companies, this research costs time and money that they would rather devote to other things. As a result, many companies choose to simply ignore these credit bureau requests.

Other large companies will respond to the credit bureaus, but they simply do not have the manpower to respond to every request. For example, a large nationwide bank with millions of customers may only employ one or two people to handle credit bureau requests. While they will have time to respond to some of the requests, many will slip through the cracks.

Finally, some reporting agencies simply do not have the ability to verify negative items. This is surprisingly common in the judicial system where some records are still kept in manila folders and stored in dusty back rooms. In these cases, whether or not a judgment, lien, or bankruptcy actually happened because it is impossible for anyone to find the proof.

In all of these cases, if the credit bureau does not receive proof that the disputed negative item should be listed on your credit reports within 30 days, they are required to remove it.

Which items should I dispute on my credit reports?

You should feel free to dispute any negative item on your credit report that you feel could be incorrect in any way. The obvious items to dispute are negative accounts you do not own, duplicate accounts, and accounts that are past the time limit for reporting bad credit.

But this is just a start. A majority of people have errors on their credit reports and many of these errors are harder to identify.

Some other things you should look for when choosing which items to dispute are the dates and dollar amounts associated with the negative listings on your credit reports. Seemingly minor details such as these could have an impact on your credit score.

If you feel for any reason that an item on your credit report may not be 100% accurate, you should dispute it. By disputing the negative item, you are forcing the credit bureaus to do the work to prove that their information is correct.

Which service level should I choose?

Lexington Law offers three service levels depending on your credit repair needs. The nice feature here is that you can change your service level at any time. For example, you could sign up for the Lexington Regular and only pay the low $39/month for first dispute cycle. This would minimize your costs while Lexington Law works to remove the “easier” negative items from your credit reports.

Then, after the first dispute cycle is completed, you can upgrade to the Concord Standard or Concord Premier service levels. At this service level, Lexington Law will continue the standard credit bureau disputes while also employing more aggressive credit repair tactics such as escalated info requests and debt validation services. Using these advanced tactics; Lexington Law will attack the more difficult negative credit items that may not be removed through standard credit bureau disputes.

Alternatively, if you are looking to improve your credit score more quickly, you will likely be better of selecting one of the Concord service levels from the beginning as the additional services they provide are designed to accelerate the credit repair process.

Why should I pay Lexington Law to repair my credit?

For the simple reason that for the large majority of people, it is faster, easier, cheaper, and more effective to hire Lexington Law to repair your credit than it is to do it yourself.

Undoubtedly, if you have spent any amount of time researching credit repair you have come across the idea that "anything a credit repair company can do for you, you can do yourself." This is absolutely true. Of course, it is only a small part of the story. Otherwise, why would over 400,000 people have used Lexington Law to help repair their credit reports?

The answer to this is that for most people, credit repair is not easy. Sure, the credit bureaus have simple online forms you can use to submit dispute request, but what do you do if the credit bureau declines to investigate your request? And what do you do if a creditor verifies an item you feel is incorrect?

This is where the expertise of Lexington Law comes in. On your own, you could take the time to test different types of letters in order to get the credit bureau to begin the investigation and you could take the time to study the FDCPA in order to learn how to formulate a legal debt validation request, but at what cost? When you consider what your time is worth, Lexington Law’s credit repair services starting at only $39/month are an obvious value.
